161 Pennies

July 19, 2010

I think pennies stink. Literally. They make your hands smell gross. You can’t really buy anything with them, and they clog up your change drawers. They are an inefficient use of precious metals. It just doesn’t seem like there’s much justification for keeping them around. In the meantime, here’s the dilemma. As part of my recent Lost Cell Phone odyssey, I had to make a call from a pay phone, and realized that my car’s coin tray was choked with pennies. Right then and there, I removed every penny from my car, which left like 80 cents in nickels and dimes jingling around the tray. I counted the pennies later and was a little disappointed to find there were only 161. It felt like a lot more. 161 is a weird number of pennies. You can’t buy a whole lot with that, but they sure take up a lot of space.

So what do you do with 161 pennies? One of my brothers suggested selling them to someone for $2, the premium being attributable to the high quantity of penny. I asked if he would like to buy several other items in quantity from me.

    Jae,

Good timing on this poll. Kellen and I had just announced our plan to save the USPS a few days prior to your post, and as such, I can’t endorse more highly the plan to mail these little babies off to PA. Perhaps you’d like to join us in our quest to change the world?
